R.Y.L Awards

What is RYLA

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program for young future leaders in the community.

Talented young people attend a residential course, in our case, at Brimpts Farm, Dartmeet, Devon. The course is seven days in length and organized by Rotarians. Participants’ expenses are often paid by their sponsoring Rotary club.

The District to which the Newquay club belongs selects candidates from Cornwall, The Isles of Scilly, Plymouth and South East Devon. It is regarded within Rotary as probably the most progressive and successful course. The 44 candidates for the course held at Brimpts Farm are selected from young adults between the ages of 18 and 28. They are selected by members of their local Rotary Clubs, who look for people who are keen and intelligent enough to take advantage of a very intensive and challenging programme and who are deserving of help in enhancing their personal development and leadership potential. Candidates need to be reasonably articulate but do not need to be extrovert.

Newquay Rotary club has, for many years, sponsored a candidate to attend the RYLA course held at Brimpts Farm, Dartmeet, Devon in July.

The candidate must be between the age of 18 and 28 and will be called to an interview in Newquay, where the successful applicant will be selected.
After completing the course the candidate is expected to deliver a short presentation to the Rotary Club about their experiences on the course.

Application forms for the course can be obtained through Newquay Rotary Club and are normally available in August each year, the closing date for applications is the end of November.
