The League of Friends of the Hospital have agreed to pledge a similar
amount on a match funding basis.
Spokesman for the Rotary Club, Brian Start explained that both organisations
were founded in the 1940’s and throughout these 60 years they
have had an extremely good relationship working for the good of the
Hospital and the residents of Newquay. The Rotary Club has provided
funds for all the appeals the Friends have made over this period and
because of this the Match Funding was suggested by the Rotary Club
and accepted by the Friends.
Mr. Start stated that organisations struggled to find these huge sums
and have even committed the funds they expect to raise from this year’s
Charity Golf Day and believe that giving £10,000 was correct
as they think that the majority of local people who had contributed
to their Charity appeals would agree with investing this amount of
money for the benefit of local residents.
The League of Friends are commited to supporting the appeal for the
£100,000 need to purchase the new X-Ray machine with the Primary
Care Trust providing the extra £50,000 for the building works
needed for the installation.
Stella Jenkin on behalf of the Hospital, the X-Ray Department and
the League of Friends sincerely thanks the Rotary Club for their very
generous donation. The League has not match funded before but there
is always a first time. We have been very lucky to have had a few
legacies and this has enabled us to meet the sum of £10,000.

The judges who were Chefs at the catering college and the District President of Rotary all commented on the very high standards of all the contestants and how difficult it had been to pick the first and second places which were to qualify for the Regional competition to be held at the Bishop Fox school in Taunton on Saturday 8th March 2008.
After over an hour of tasting and deliberation the judges selected
the two qualifiers who were Clojo Bedingham from Falmouth and Sasha
Mckechnie from Newquay.
